Overview

Go High Level's Email Builder is an essential tool in your marketing system. In it, you can create and save templates, then use them for email campaigns and automated workflows.

The Email Builder contains two main sections:

  • Email Templates — Where you customize the branding, layout, and design of your emails
  • Email Campaigns — Where you add messages and delivery options for sending to customers and leads

There are over 350 email templates available across different industries and business niches—all included on every Go High Level plan at no extra cost!

Creating Templates

Follow these steps to create your first email template:

  1. Navigate to Email Builder

From the left-hand menu, go to Marketing → Emails → Templates.

  2. Create New Template

Click + New to get started. Choose from the Template Library, reuse a Campaign that was sent or scheduled, or use a Blank Template.

  3. Choose Your Builder

Select between Drag & Drop Builder (best for most users—like Canva for emails) or HTML Builder (for developers or custom code).

  4. Customize Your Template

Use the intuitive drag-and-drop interface to add elements, edit text, insert images, and style your email. Click Preview to see how it looks on desktop and mobile.

  5. Save Your Template

Hit Save and give it a clear name (e.g., "Welcome Email v2 – Short"). You can now use this template in campaigns and workflows.

The Inline Editor

The Email Builder Inline Editor leverages "What You See Is What You Get" (WYSIWYG) editing. As you make changes, they're immediately reflected just as they'll appear in the final email.

Key Features:

  • Exact Color Matching — Use hex codes (like #AFAFAF) to ensure your brand colors are used precisely
  • Hyperlink Addition — Add hyperlinks to words or phrases, linking product names to their pages for a seamless journey
  • AI-Assisted Content — Use Content AI to generate content faster, with auto-suggestions based on your inputs
  • Text Formatting — Copy-paste from other sources and remove styling with one click
Pro Tip

Keep your email body under 500 words and focused on one CTA (Call-to-Action) for best results.

Personalization with Smart Tags

Personalize your emails by using Smart Tags—dynamic placeholders that pull information directly from your CRM fields.

Common Smart Tags:

  • {{contact.first_name}} — Contact's first name
  • {{contact.email}} — Contact's email address
  • {{contact.company_name}} — Their company name
  • {{appointment.start_time}} — Scheduled appointment time

Always include fallback values for fields that might be empty:

{{contact.first_name | default: "there"}}

This ensures your email reads "Hi there" instead of "Hi " if the name field is empty.

Mobile Optimization

In today's world, it's important that your emails look good on all devices. The Email Builder provides a special section for mobile formatting.

Mobile Settings:

  • Font Size — Your primary header should be large enough to grab attention but not dominate the screen
  • Text Alignment — Alignment influences how easily content is digested on mobile
  • Element Visibility — Specify which headings, paragraphs, and buttons should be visible on mobile

These configurations only affect the mobile rendition of your email template and work in email clients that support media queries.

Deliverability Tip

You can also create your own template to match your brand. Insert regularly used images, videos, logos, or recurring content into your template, and reuse it for future campaigns to maintain brand consistency.
